We’ve been working with HBO and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment to promote Game of Thrones releases since season 2, with bespoke modular POS and large-scale theatrical pieces, including archways, photo-opportunities and a life-sized ‘Iron Throne’ for Season 4, which we launched alongside our successful #TakeTheThrone social media campaign.
For the season 5 boxset, our brief was to create a POS campaign with the ‘wow’ factor. Key objectives included using the dragon design as the main signifier for season 5, and generating excitement around the boxset release.
Using stills from the series, we created the now-infamous 3D ‘dragons head’, originating illustrations in-house, and then executing them across two structural designs; a larger, more complex design for the HMV 363 banner, and a smaller, simpler design for the theatrical retail POS.
The dragon’s head POS was both a crowd pleaser and an award winner, taking Gold in the Retail Services and Stationery category, and Silver in the Temporary Display of the Year category at the 2016 POPAI Awards.
